Poor eyesight can be quite a disturbing issue and a restriction to certain habits such as movement and reading. The worst part of all is that loss of vision is a gradual process, and it may take days before you notice that you are unable see distant or closer objects. However, there is no need to panic as there are measures you can take to improve your eyesight.
By monitoring your diet and emphasizing on eye exercises, you may get your vision back.
Not only can eating certain types of food improve your vision, but it also improves the general health of your eyes. Carrots, Blueberries, and greens are among the types of food that can do wonders in improving your eyesight.
Greens are rich in lutein, a substance that increases pigment density in the macula of the eye. The macula is just a group of light-sensitive cells located at the center of the retina (inner layer of the eye).
These cells together with other retinal cells collect light reflected from objects and send it to the brain for interpretation. Therefore, a denser macula means a clearer image.
Carrots and Blueberries
For a long time, carrot has earned fame for its significance in eyesight improvement. Carrots contain a nutrient called carotene which is converted to vitamin A by the liver. High amounts of vitamin A helps in absorption of more light implying that you can see more clearly. Eggs, milk, cabbage and mangoes are also sources of carotene.
Blueberries contain compounds known as anthocyanosides. The compounds boost the functioning of the retinal area that adjusts the eye to see in dim light.
Besides vision improvement, eye exercises also relieve eye soreness and exhaustion.
Eye Roll Exercise
You can do eye rolling exercise while sitting, standing or lying down. Open your eyes and roll them clockwise or anticlockwise 15-20 times. Begin at a slow pace and increase the pace as you continue. Repeat the exercise 2- 3 times in a day.
The exercise stretches your eye muscles and improves circulation of blood, which enhances vision.
Just like the eye rolling exercise, you can do the exercise while sitting, standing or lying down. Close your eyes and rub your hands quickly to warm them. Immediately after the rub, place the hands (base) over your eyes to allow heat penetration. Repeat the practice several times.
For your eyelids, rub your hands and use your fingers tips to rub the eyelids. Rub across them for 20-30 times. The eye rub exercise soothes your eyes and improves blood circulation.
The right diet and eye exercises may improve your eyesight but they are not equivalent to your doctor's advice. You may still need to see an optometrist or ophthalmologist at places like Total Eyes for advanced treatment.
